What this covers
SimpleResume (“the Service”) helps you rewrite and optimize your résumé. Beyond generating your résumé, the Service runs an active data program: we retain the data you provide, use it to improve our AI models, build insights, and — with your consent — surface your profile to employers and recruiters. This policy explains what we collect, everything we may do with it, and the controls you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy.
Data we collect
- Résumé content — the file or text you upload (work history, education, skills, contact details, and anything else in your résumé).
- Account information — if you sign in, your email address and authentication identifiers, managed by our authentication provider.
- Generated output — the optimized résumé, scores, and coaching notes the Service produces from your input.
- Usage and outcome data — how you interact with the Service, the edits you make, and, where you share them, application or hiring outcomes.
- Basic technical data — standard request metadata (such as your browser type and timestamps) needed to operate and secure the Service.
How we use your data
We use the data you provide for the purposes below. This goes beyond simply returning your résumé to you, so we want to be explicit about every use:
- Provide the Service — extract text, generate an optimized résumé, score it, and produce coaching notes.
- Improve and train our models — we use your résumé content and generated output, in de-identified form, to train, fine-tune, evaluate, and improve the AI models and algorithms behind the Service.
- Insights and analytics — we build aggregate and statistical insights (for example, skills trends, scoring benchmarks, and model evaluations) from de-identified data.
- Employer and recruiter recommendations — we match your profile to roles and may surface it to employers, recruiters, and hiring partners (see “Employer & recruiter recommendations” below).
- Develop new features and research — including testing, debugging, securing, and building new products.
- Communicate with you — to operate, support, and send you service-related messages.
Making your data non-identifiable
Before we use your data to train models, build analytics, or share it for recommendations without your explicit consent, we take steps to remove or mask direct identifiers — including your name, email address, phone number, postal address, and personal profile links — so the data is not reasonably linkable to you. De-identified and aggregated data is not treated as personal data; it may be retained and used indefinitely, including after you delete your account. De-identification reduces but does not entirely eliminate the risk of re-identification.
Employer & recruiter recommendations
Connecting candidates with opportunities is part of what we are building. Here is exactly how your data is involved:
- We use your profile to match you to roles and to rank candidates for employers and recruiters.
- By default, employers and recruiters see a de-identified or pseudonymized version of your profile.
- We disclose your identity and contact details to an employer or recruiter only when you opt in — for example, when you apply, request an introduction, or otherwise consent to being shared.
- You can turn employer and recruiter sharing on or off at any time (see “Your choices and rights”).
Third-party processors and recipients
To deliver the Service we share data with the following parties, only as needed:
- OpenAI — your résumé content is sent to OpenAI’s API to generate, score, and review your résumé.
- Supabase — used for authentication and to store your account and saved résumés.
- Google — if you choose “Continue with Google,” Google handles that sign-in.
- Employers, recruiters, and hiring partners — may receive de-identified profiles, and your identified profile only where you have consented.
Storage and retention
If you are signed in, your saved résumés are stored in your account until you delete them. You can delete individual résumés, or reset your account from Settings, which removes your saved résumés and profile data from your account. Two exceptions apply: (1) we may keep limited copies for legal, security, and backup purposes for a reasonable period; and (2) de-identified and aggregated data derived from your content — including data already used to train models or build insights — is not removed by deletion and may be retained indefinitely. If you use the Service without an account, your résumé is processed to return results, and de-identified content may still be used as described above.
Your choices and rights
You are in control of how your data is used beyond providing the core Service:
- Delete your data — the account reset in Settings is the fastest way.
- Opt out of model training — you can ask us to stop using your content to train and improve our models.
- Control employer/recruiter sharing — sharing your identity stays off until you opt in, and you can opt out at any time.
- Do Not Sell or Share — because recommendations may be considered a “sale” or “share” under some laws, you may opt out by contacting us.
- Access and correction — you may request access to or correction of your personal data.
Cookies
We use cookies strictly to keep you signed in and to operate the Service. We do not use advertising cookies.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
